Top Trends at the International Home and Housewares Show 2018

You never know what you will discover while wandering through the International Home and Housewares Show – especially with a broken shoulder.  One product I really enjoyed was “The Perfect Wine Opener” by Vineyard Elite. I thought it would be impossible to open a wine bottle with my broken shoulder.  To my delight it worked!

Inspiration and innovation were key highlights of the show, including color, design and technology of new products.

Hip.  This trendy new product designed by Karim Rashid is a “fashion forward water bottle” that makes hydration “hip.” Its distinctive flask shape offered in an array of vibrant colors will hydrate not only the consumer but also a charity.  Proceeds from the sale of Hip will help hydrate communities who need water through Water For People.

Hello Yellow: The color for Wilton’s new product launch provides a sugary smile as they #BakeYourWorldHappy.  Customization is of course a continuing trend in the consumer market, and Wilton offers products that will customize any party for any occasion.

Mix and Match:  Another popular trend is to mix and match dinnerware. Corelle introduced new designs that can be interchanged to enhance any table.  I especially love their new line My Best Friend that features dogs. Corning ware is making its old patterns new again to celebrate its 60th anniversary.

“App”etite:  Let technology whet your “app”etite.  The Smart Home pavilion featured a lot of products and appliances with personalized apps that will help measure water consumption, food preparation and even turn off your iron from your phone.  The COO of innit shared their strategy of integrating all the different apps in the kitchen into a single operating system.

Easy Care Copper: Copper pots are popular but can be a challenge to maintain and cost prohibitive to purchase.  At this year’s show, Viking  introduced an affordable new line of cookware with copper on the exterior.  The home chef benefits form the elements of cooking with copper without the challenge of polishing it.

What’s trendy in your kitchen?

Savor the day!
