Bridge of Spies is one of Steven Spielberg’s best movies ever!  Based on a true story, Bridge of Spies depicts the tension of the Cold War and highlights the strategic hostage negotiations led by James B. Donovan, portrayed by Tom Hanks.  After Hanks’ character defends Rudolf Abel, a Soviet KGB spy, he successfully convinces the judge on the strategic importance of imprisonment for Abel instead of death.  Meanwhile, Francis Gary Powers, a U.S. pilot of a U2 spy plane is shot down over the Soviet Union during a secret mission.  Donovan is ultimately able to negotiate a successful hostage exchange of Rudolf Abel for Francis Gary Powers that takes place on a bridge in Germany.

Many pivotal scenes include James B Donovan (Tom Hanks) sipping brandy during intense negotiations.  Therefore, I chose Chef Eric Lanlard’s delicious recipe for Black Forest Cupcakes to pair with . And of course one of the main ingredients is Cherry Brandy!  And, since the Black Forest is located in Germany, I thought the cupcakes would be a nice pairing for Bridge of Spies.  Here’s the video of how I prepared Chef Eric Lanlard’s recipe.  Enjoy!
