With a mission of economic empowerment for peace through agriculture, Roots of Peace helps to restore economic vitality by creating livelihood opportunities in post-conflict regions and removing land mines.  The founder, Heidi Kuhn was inspired by Princess Diana’s compassion and commitment to global de-mining. Land mines have a lasting and detrimental impact on the economic wellbeing of a war-torn community. Did you  know that there are 3.5 million land mines in Vietnam?

Kuhn began Roots of Peace in honor of Princess Diana’s memory. Kuhn’s vision was to “turn MINES TO VINES by replacing the scourge of land mines with bountiful vineyards worldwide.” With support from the California wine industry, Heidi’s dreams soon became reality. Roots of Peace has helped raise awareness and funds to remove one million landmines and UXO (unexploded weapons) worldwide. In addition, Roots of Peace has helped plant over five million trees to help restore and return damaged and dangerous land back into the capable hands of local farmers. The organization also helps farmers with the tools and resources to grow, market and sell their products.

Don’t miss the opportunity to bid on a “Taste of Peace,” a VIP wine tour personally hosted by Heidi Kuhn for four people who will have the exclusive opportunity of visiting top Napa Valley wineries. The proceeds will benefit The Red Cross Los Angeles Region. Leading wineries include Croatian-born Miljenko Grgich and daughter, Violet Grgich, of Grgich Hills Estate which won the Paris Tasting in 1976, launching the Napa Valley wine industry with the late Robert Mondavi. The VIP tour will continue to Robert Mondavi Winery, which supported the first Mines to Vines program in Croatia in 1998. Fine wines will be served at all wineries and the tour will conclude at Kieu Hoang Winery. Here’s a link to bid on this Taste of Peace VIP wine tour on Charity Buzz.  And while you are bidding, consider attending the Asian World Film Festival’s Global Change Gala to benefit the Red Cross

Also, please consider joining or gifting The Roots of Peace Wine Club membership and enjoy some of the finest red wine of Napa Valley.  The proceeds from every bottle purchased will support farmers across the globe.  As Guillermo Valadez, the wine club manager says, “Every glass of wine is a taste of peace.” Here’s the link to join The Roots of Peace Wine Club.
